GB 2760 1996 provides for the permitted use of spices for food.

This product is an organic synthesis intermediate. The pharmaceutical industry is used to synthesize the drug methyldopa, as well as to produce the veterinary drug dimycorrine, a sulfonamide enhancer. The veterinary drug is mixed into the feed at 0.02% by weight to make the iodide added in the feed more effective and is used to prevent bacterial infection in poultry.

Mainly used in the synthesis of antibiotic drugs.
